"Royal Street Blues" Wake up early wipe the sleep from my eyes Splash some water on my face Saddle up the bike between my thighs Movin' slow at my own pace Hungover flying down St. Claude If I hit a pothole that’s between me and god Say hey to the boys holding down the spot Looking a little haggard eyes bloodshot The sun is shining and skies are clear Let’s have some fun while we’re here Can’t stop me once my banjos strung Singing at the top of my lungs We ain’t playin' nothin' but 100 year old songs I got the Royal Street blues all day long All the pretty ladies pass by this way Through the quarter they sashay I’ve got a headache sitting on a milk crate I’ve been drinking but I have not ate Walk the bucket up and down the street Swing dancers with happy feet Looks like we’re starting to draw a crowd I’m strumming these strings real loud The boys are whining And I’m Grinning ear to ear I'm lining my belly with another beer Can’t stop stop me once my guitar's strung Singing at the top of our lungs We ain't playing nothin' but jugband songs Got the Royal Street blues all day long Smells and melody waft on by Faint sound of calliopes cry Got to get down to the river have a bite Watch the ships pass by and get our heads right Made enough for po-boys & beer This is what all I’ve wanted for years We make our way over to Frenchmen street Dance until the all night long to the mambo beat Yes sir I know what it means To miss the the land of dreams It’s a feeling on the tip of your tongue I’m leaving tomorrow but the night's still young Let’s burn up all this midnight oil til dawn I’ve got the royal street blues all night long

“Back In The Day” Back in the day they'd play through the night they had a way of making things feel alright in their own special style forget their troubles for a little while they had their own way back in the day Wayback when when times were hard they’d gather with friends Drink liquor smoke cigarettes and play cards Dance together and kick off their shoes Romance their way through the blues You leaned on your friends Way back when When life handed you lemons You made sweet lemonade You smiled while battling gremlins Danced while it rained on your parade In the days of yore They didn’t accept compromise They took to the floor Got together to organize They wrote books, songs and made signs And they didn’t cross picket lines They had a lot to say They took it day by day They had their own way Back in the day

“Mardi Gras in Ukraine” My drinks I’m dilutin’ I’m thinking about Putin And singing songs world war 3 I’m getting ready to got to a party It’s Mardi Gras day And I’m thinking about a tyrant Half a world away Who’s trying to blow up a power plant In this life there is so much pain Can’t help but think I’ve got it made There’s a bloody war in Ukraine But I’m going to see the parade Tho we look at the same moon and stars they fight for their lives we fight in the bars Tho we breathe the same air and drink the same water we are all too bored to care about their sons and their daughters
4.
“Baby, Won’t You Please Come Home” I’ve got the blues I feel so lonely I'd give the world If I could only Make you understand It truly would be grand I'm gonna telephone my baby Ask her won't you please come home Oh, when you're gone I'm worried all day long. Baby, won't you please come home? 'Cause your daddies all alone. I have tried in vain Nevermore to call your name When you left you broke my heart That will never make us part Every hour of the day you can hear me say Baby, won't you please come home? I need money. Baby, won't you please come home?

Ham & Eggs 05:05
"Ham & Eggs" If I only had a nickel I'd buy some ham & eggs I haven't had a square meal for many many days I hear my stomach growling And I know just what to do Oh good people don't ever let it happen to you Ham & eggs Ham & eggs Can't you hear me callin' you If I only had a dollar i'd buy some ham & eggs I'd even settle for a greasy chicken leg They say there's no depression and there's lots of work to do Oh good people don't ever let it happen to you Ham & eggs Ham & eggs Can't you hear me callin' you
6.
"Southern Nights" Southern nights have you ever felt a southern Southern nights Have you ever felt a southern night? Free as a breeze Not to mention the trees Whistling tunes that you know and love so Southern skies Just as good even when closed your eyes I apologize To anyone who can truly say That he has found a better way Southern skies Have you ever noticed southern skies? Its precious beauty lies deep beyond the eye Goes running through your soul Like the stories told of old Old man He and his dog they walked the old land Every flower touched his cold hand As he slowly walked by The weeping willow would cry for joy Feel so good Feel so good, it's frightenin' Wish I could Stop this world from fighting la da da Mysteries Like this and many others in the trees Blow in the night In the southern skies
7.
"Sweet Substitute" Sweet substitute, sweet substitute, She tells me that she's mine all mine, Does anything I tell her 'cause love is blind. She's got her lovin' ways, she's got my head in a daze, My new recruit is might sweet and cute, And I crazy 'bout my substitute, (don't want any regulars), I'm crazy 'bout my substitute.
8.
"Nobody But You" I don't want, nobody else but you No one treats me, the way you do I just want you to hold my hand, and tell me I'm your lover man And I don't want, nobody else but you Come and take me, take me in your arms Tell me I'm the only one, to feel your charm No, I don't care, what they may say, I'm gonna love you anyway And I don't want, nobody else but you Wherever you are, that's where I'd love to be You've captured my heart, and I love it. Can't you see? No, I don't care, what they may say, I'm gonna love you anyway And I don't want, nobody else but you Nobody but you Nobody but you Nobody but you, baby Nobody but you I said nobody but you Nobody but you
9.
"What Goes Around Comes Around" Remember way back when You had a yen To mess over your old friend You know, you dragged me to your heart With your smile and grin Youll never get a chance like that To pull that old stuff again What goes around, comes around What goes around, comes around And the way it goes up Thats the way it goes down Now, I done got over It wont bother me no more And the way that I met you Ill meet a million more Im so glad, the way I feel Youve come out on the short end Of a dirty, dirty deal You keeping an eye peeled Over your shoulder Lifes not getting any younger Its gettin older and older You keep trying To be a little bolder You know, life might sometimes treat you Just a little colder and colder What goes around, comes around What goes around, comes around What goes around, comes around What goes around, comes around
10.
"Tomorrrow Night" Tomorrow night Will you remember what you said tonight? Tomorrow night Will all the thrills be gone? Tomorrow night Will it be just another memory? Or just another lovely song That's in my heart to linger on? Your lips are so tender Your heart is beating fast And you willingly surrender Tell me, darlin', will it last? Tomorrow night Will you be with me when the moon is bright? Tomorrow night Will you say those lovely things you said tonight? Tomorrow night Will you remember what you said tonight? Tomorrow night Will all the thrills be gone? Tomorrow night Will it be just another memory? Or just another lovely song That's in my heart to linger on? Your lips are so tender Your heart is beating fast And you willingly surrender Tell me, darlin', will it last? Tomorrow night Will you be with me when the moon is bright? Tomorrow night Will you say those lovely things you said tonight?

about

“Recorded live at Bigtone Records in New Orleans in the spring of 2023. “Royal Street Blues'' is the latest solo album by Folkfaces frontman Tyler Westcott. A concept album and love letter to New Orleans & the music of Louisiana.
“Royal Street Blues” features three Westcott originals: the nostalgia soaked “Back in the Day”, the brooding topical juxtaposition of “Mardi Gras In Ukraine”, & busking anthem and title track “Royal Street Blues”. All other tracks were written by Louisiana born musicians. Westcott offers renditions of Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Danny Barker, as well as a swamp pop song and Cajun tune. Westcott gathered an impressive group of locals to perform. The songs are filled with rolling piano, fiddle, washboard, tenor banjo and the classic New Orleans horn trio sound of clarinet, trombone and trumpet.
With the knowledgeable Big Jon Atkinson behind the console and the band all in one room recording live to tape the record has a warm and fuzzy beautiful old timey sound. 11 tracks were cut in two days using vintage RCA ribbon microphones some of which were used by the likes of Nat King Cole and others.
“Royal Street Blues” is a personal ode to the unique culture of New Orleans and Louisiana. It taps into the spirit of the early days of Jazz. It’s a refreshing perspective on an ancient art form that feels memorable and new.”
